Job Description Brief

We are looking for a skilled Bookkeeper to maintain our financial records, including recording and maintaining a business’ financial transactions, such as purchases, expenses, sales revenue, invoices, and payments. The Bookkeeper will record financial data into general ledgers, which are used to produce the balance sheet and income statement. The bookkeeper is generally responsible for overseeing the first six steps of the Accounting Cycle, while the last two are typically taken care of by an accountant. While there is a general overlap between the two professions, there are a few distinctions between the 2 Jobs.

Being consistent, accurate, and minimizing errors are key characteristics that we are seeking for this position. It is indispensable to have a knowledge of accounting and to understand how to use accounting software systems. A bookkeeper is responsible for overseeing and reconciling hundreds of financial transactions. This is typically done with the assistance of various software systems, and for this reason, technology literacy is incredibly valuable for the profession. A few other relevant skills and job duties would include the following:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Record day to day financial transactions and complete the posting process
  • Verify that transactions are recorded in the correct day book, supplier’s ledger, customer ledger and general ledger
  • Bring the books to the trial balance stage
  • Maintain an accurate record of financial transactions
  • Reconciliation of entries into accounting system
  • Complete tax forms
  • Enter data, maintain records, and create reports and financial statements
  • Process accounts receivable/payable and handle payroll in a timely manner
  • Account reconciliation to assert the accuracy of transactions
  • Use knowledge of local laws to comply with reporting requirements
  • Monitor any variances from the projected budget

Required Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, math or a related field, or at least 2-5 years’
    experience
  • BS degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration is a plus
  • Proven bookkeeping experience
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable/receivable principles
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
  • Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software
  • Proficiency in English and in MS Office
  • Understanding accounting best practices
  • Knowledge of accounting framework
  • Customer service orientation and negotiation skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Produce work with a high level of accuracy
  • Professionalism and organization skills
  • Knowledge of Accounting applications is a plus
